Rules that govern and drive direction!

What is the Boards Role in Policy?

The primary role of a school board director in the USA in relation to policy is to develop, approve, and oversee educational policies that govern the school district. This includes establishing guidelines for curriculum, student conduct, personnel management, and budgeting. School board directors work collaboratively with other board members, administrators, and the community to ensure that policies align with educational goals and comply with state and federal regulations. They also play a key role in evaluating the effectiveness of these policies and making necessary adjustments based on feedback and changing needs within the district.

What is the role of the Policy Committee?

A policy committee has been established to ensure that our policies remain up to date and effective. This committee is responsible for reviewing existing policies and proposing new ones as needed. However, all policies developed by the committee must be submitted to the full school board for approval. The board has the authority to remand any policy back to the committee for further review or to request the creation of new policies. This collaborative approach ensures that all policies reflect the needs and goals of our district while maintaining accountability.

Community Policy Input!

We have established a policy committee with the intention of including community members to enhance public participation in the policymaking process. Unfortunately, a group of individuals, comprised of family members and personal friends of administrators and teachers, has attempted to impede this engagement, effectively silencing the public voice in policy discussions. To restore and encourage meaningful public involvement, we invite you to share your ideas for developing new policies or modifying existing ones. Your input is essential in ensuring that our policies reflect the needs and perspectives of the entire community.
