No Tax increase this year, first time in at least 15 years!
With great help from Julie the new Board members found that at least one of the accounts the District had with a bank was not occurring interest at a fair rate. In fact the District was lossing money on that account as the interest made was not covering the fee of $95 dollars on an account that had about 2 million dollars. After the negotiations with the Bank we now make around 30,000 dollars on that account.
The District has many contracts with venders and service providers. Many of the contracts have just been renewed every year with out Negotiations. The new Board members forced negotiations through their willing ness to seek other providers. This has gained better deals for the District on every contract that they have challenged. Working hard to save money.
While on the board I have heard “because we always do it this way” to many times. With the help of the new board members this is now being challenged. For example the District was following an old requirement for MDS sheets, cussing the district to spend 3,000 dollars every year. We know have access to MSDS sheets for no to little cost because we stopped doing it the way it was always done. While following legal requirements.
Paying down the debt is essential to saving money and lowering taxes. Debt crates overhead the district doesn’t need. Funding for improvements and updates need to be done through grants before any new debt is added. Balloon payments from existing debt creates a reluctance to lower taxes till they are paid off.
